⇒ Personality

Harlock has been through the ringer recently, coming back from the war on the losing side was the lowest point in his life. He prone to falling into melancholy without a cause to fight for or a friend to keep out of trouble. He spends the first ⅓ of Arcadia of My Youth rather directionless, in the opening we see signs of him contemplating provoking a fight so he’ll get shot and killed. Luckily the friends he does have are trouble magnets. His current new motive in life is sticking to to the man by flying around space with a ship and flag covered in skulls.

The skull and crossbones practically doubles as the family coat of arms. Both Harlock ancestors in Arcadia of My Youth have them on their aircraft. Jolly Rogers are personalized banners they mean different things to different people. To a Harlock it’s a declaration to fight for your dreams till there’s nothing left but a bleached skeleton on some distant shore.

He’s first and foremost a man on his word. Once he makes a promise no matter how trivial he’ll keep it or die trying. The Harlock family on a whole are big on accountability. His WWII ancestor/counterpart walks back across the river border between Nazi territory and Switzerland to face the French resistance. Personal risk means nothing when it comes to lending his allies a hand, if he dies so be it. He’s very loyal to his friends and crew. He’s the first one come bail someone out when they’ve run off on their own and gotten in over their heads.

As a leader he places a lot of trust in his crew. When someone joins his crew he only asks they swear by his flag to fight as comrades to achieve their dreams. Beyond that he doesn't demand things of people. If someone has boarded his ship he trusts they will work to achieve their goals which in a roundabout way means doing what one can to make the ship run smoothly. If you’re doing that anything else is fair game when you have down time. When the situation arises he knows everyone will pull their weight. The best example of this would be when he sat there and did nothing to rescue Maya or Emerladas because he trusted that Zol would watch over the humans on Earth as promised.

He’s an honorable opponent in battle. He prefers to fight on equal footing and doesn't like finding out he's been fighting someone with a handicap. He goes into every battle resolved it could be his last. If he’s bested its going be because his opponent was better than him. He has no regrets. He doesn't like unfair advantages so he keeps away from ending up in fights with women and children. He gives the targets he raids the option to surrender peacefully, and people met on neutral ground are invited out for drinks. Challenges for one on one combat are always accepted. He’s not one to back down to any challenge. The second someone tries something underhanded he’s utterly ruthless in putting someone down.

He’s a decent person for an outlaw which utterly confuses many people because they take his being a pirate at face value. The people tasked with chasing in often are often influenced by his charisma and understand and like him despite being on opposing sides. Zeda definitely respects Harlock’s decision to not cooperate with the occupation, he decides in the end to challenge Harlock to duel. Meanwhile Zeda’s second in command tried to take a shot at Harlock while the pirate’ back was turned. Zeda tells his subordinate essentially “you’re and idiot and you deserve what’s coming to you”. Harlock then shoots the guy right between the eyes.

It doesn't bother him that people assume the worst of him because of his outlaw status. He doesn't care what the world thinks of him, he can live with being considered a traitor to his homeland. While his friends seem shocked at being told they’re being exiled forever, Harlock’s done caring about what the earth government says. He knows what he’s fighting for and he doesn't need recognition. He’ll be an outlaw if that’s what he needs to do in order to fight for a better future.

⇒ Powers and Abilities:
Fencing skills- Harlock’s a champion level fencer comparable to the hero in any swashbuckler movie.
No lack of depth perception - Closest thing Harlock has to an actual superpower is how lack of vision in his right eye doesn’t slow him down. He’s been known to fire at and hit things in his blind spot.
Military experience- Harlock’s was well respected officer in the solar federation navy having received an honor for combat heroism. He’s cool under pressure and was one of Earth’s more successful captains.

⇒ Personal Effects: Gravity Saber - A sword that doubles as a laser rifle. technically saber blade is energized with gravity, but I assume they came up with the cool name first and how it works later.
Cosmo Dragoon - resembling a Colt Dragoon Revolver, this laser pistol will shoot a kill a machineman dead. Recoil has been known to knock an unsuspecting first time user off their feet.

WRITTEN SAMPLE
[There’s been an uptick in arrivals to the camp, Harlock one of those. The space pirate has spent most of the day wandering around, you’ve likely heard him pass by. Harlock’s boots have the distinct kink of riding spurs, an amusing detail considering he’s a space pirate, not a cowboy. He wondered where she found them, how much much of her final gift to him had been spur of the moment? She knew he couldn’t live being grounded on earth, yet here he is again cut off from the Sea of Stars. Still he was free, he could chose to aid the people in their fight against Orochi’s forces, or just wander this strange land.

Harlock looks looks over towards the center of the camp a few men are setting up what will likely be the mother of all bonfires tonight. That makes him smile, little things made a difference. People here were organized, and had the will to do something about the damage done. Earth has not been like that, no one had been up to clearing up rubble and living again. These people would be worth helping. Could use a saloon, there was a tea house. Harlock sighed he wasn’t up for female company so soon after losing her. Last thing he needed was flirting or sympathy. He looked over towards the gap in the lava mounds that served as a camp’s entryway. There had to be some form of bar out there somewhere. This was some Chinese influenced land there had to be someone with bottles of rice wine squirreled away for a party. At friendly little drinking contest at tonight's fire might be fun. Time to go see if the men stacking wood had any ideas on where to find some.]
